Hydration therapy consists of the administration of liquid solutions that has low quantities of salts and other necessary nutrients through a vein. Moderate to severe dehydration interferes with the body's normal functions; this therapy replenishes the balance of liquids caused by an illness, surgery, or accident. Patients can receive hydration therapy in their home if the physician considers to avoid an emergency room visit or hospitalization.
